The First Indian Presbyterian Church is the oldest active church in Idaho. This historic church and cemetery are located on land allotted to the family of Chief Lawyer of the Nez Perce Tribe. Chief Lawyer was the son of Twisted Hair who, as a boy, had seen Lewis and Clark at the Weippe Prairie in 1805.

The church was started by missionary Henry Spaulding, and later continued by missionaries Kate and Sue McBeth. Chief Lawyer became the first elder of the church and helped Henry Spaulding translate the Bible into the Nez Perce language.

The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
