The Roxy Theater is located in a unique location in Missoula, Montana. From downtown Missoula, over the S Higgins Bridge, an area named the hip-strip. The hip-strip is submerged with activity as it is surrounded by a record store, skate shop, coffee shop, bakery, and is just a walk away from downtown Missoula and the University of Montana. 

In 1937 The Roxy Theater was built as a single screen theater and became known for being the second-hand theater to watch movies at a less expense. Over the next several decades, The Roxy experienced a fire that ruined the inside, people were fighting over the land, and the Roxy Theater didn’t get the attention it should’ve. Then in 2001, the International Film Festival purchased the building as a home for its annual festival. As the theater was only used for the International Film Festival for years, Mike Steinberg proposed an idea to start utilizing the theater as a year-round venue. Highlighting certain films such as documentaries, foreign films, independent films, and play films. Giving films that usually wouldn’t have a venue in town, now have a home. Now, The Roxy Theater has expanded into three different screens and show films on a daily bases. 

The Roxy Theater is a non-profit organization that merges the community, cinema, and education with the help of the community, volunteers, and the members in the heart of downtown Missoula. Their goal is to inspire, educate, and engage diverse audiences about the natural and human worlds through cinematic and cultural events.
