Honoring the indigenous tribes of the Kickapoo, Potawatomi, Iowa, Sac and Fox tribes, the Peter Toth Indian Monument (Tall Oak) celebrates key characteristics of Doniphan’s native indigenous tribes. The monument is featured as the centerpiece of the Doniphan County Courthouse. The monument depicts a traditional Native American chief in headdress. The grand 27 foot monument is one of Doniphan’s finest pieces of art throughout the city. This monument is one of many in Toph’s collection of indigenous art pieces throughout the world. Toph’s hope is that those who view the monument will be able to understand and sympathize with the years of struggle that many generations of Native Americans have faced.
