Established in 1857, the monks of St. Benedict’s Abbey pray and work for the glory of God and the good of the world, seeking to share the love of Jesus Christ with all those they encounter. While COVID-19 has restricted our normal activity, typically Mass and Prayers each day are open to the public – Guests are invited to pray the Liturgy of the Hours or celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass alongside the monastic community.
The Abbey Church is home to a Blessed Sacrament Chapel for prayer and tours of our historic home are available upon request. Located on the bluffs of the Missouri River, the Abbey features a scenic overlook with views of the Missouri River Valley as well as a Rosary Walk and outdoor Stations of the Cross for guests to have a prayerful outdoor experience during their visit.
For those seeking a time of respite and spiritual renewal, private and group retreats are available upon request and Men’s, Women’s, and Couple’s Retreats are scheduled throughout each year (see website for details). The Abbey Guesthouse also offers overnight accommodations throughout the year for those passing through the Atchison area.
