A rustic town along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, Pisgah is home to just over 250 people, all of whom welcome your visit. This town may be small, but Pisgah has its own claim to fame: the community boasts the Old Home Café which was made famous in a song by the country singer C.W. McCall. Additionally, the Pisgah ball field is one of the Top 10 Vintage Baseball Diamonds in Iowa and was the home turf of New York Yankees’ third baseman, Loren Babe, and left-handed pitcher, Bob Wiltse. In addition to playing for the Yankees, Loren Babe played for the Philadelphia Athletics, and was first-base coach for the Yankees in the late 60s. As such, Pisgah is a must-see town for any baseball lover!
Running through this rural community is the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway, and located in the city center is the Loess Hills State Forest Visitor Center. This welcome center offers a central location to launch an exploration of the Loess Hills, and features interpretive forestry displays. The visitor center also serves as the headquarters of the roughly 11,600-acre Loess Hills State Forest. Preparation Canyon State Park, which boasts picnic areas, hiking trails, and remote walk-in campsites suitable for the avid camper, is situated a few miles north of Pisgah. More campsites can be found at the Pisgah City Park Campground.
The annual Pisgah Play Days, held the last weekend of June, are a celebration of the community itself. With a parade, carnival, car show, food, games, and dances, Pisgah Play Days offer something for every visitor. In addition to the famed Dave’s Old Home Café, the Loess Hills Country Corner is sure to serve up something to fit your liking. The Loess Hills Bed & Breakfast offers a perfect get-away for anyone seeking to explore this community located along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
