The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House is home to more than 60 tropical butterflies and over 150 tropical plants. The conservatory spans 8,000 square feet of garden habitat and features the butterflies. Other parts of the center include an insect zoo, classrooms, theater space, and a seasonal Native Butterfly Garden. The Butterfly House features classes and events, such as Tea Parties and Pollinator Plant Sales, and it works with conservation groups in Costa Rica to preserve land internationally. The mission of the center is “to foster a greater understanding of plant and animal relationships in the environment in order to promote the conservation and restoration of natural habitats,” which it accomplishes through its accessible and affordable educational programming. Tickets can be purchased in person or online.
