Old Clarksville Site

The Old Clarksville Site was home to George Rogers Clark, the older brother of William Clark. A Revolutionary War hero, the cabin was once considered George’s “retirement” home, and with good reason. With breathtaking views of the falls of the Ohio River, visitors can step back in time when they visit this historic location that is integral to the story of Lewis & Clark’s origins. It is here where William Clark met Meriwether Lewis as they went on to recruit the “nine men from Kentucky” that would eventually form the Corps of Discovery.

As the Falls of the Ohio State Park website reads, “Known for almost 200 years as “Clark’s Point,” it is situated in a sharp curve enabling one to have a spectacular view of the falls and also see both up and down river for a considerable distance. It is no wonder that George Rogers Clark selected this location for his ‘retirement home.'”

Today visitors can enter the Falls of the Ohio State Park to visit the Old Clarksville Site. A part from immersing yourself in history, George Rogers Clark’s cabin is a great place to host small picnics and view interpretative panels.
