In a picturesque setting with natural grass and breathtaking vistas, Chief Looking’s Village exemplifies the profound history of Bismarck.  Situated atop a bluff, this land once was the site of a Native American village and now features an interpretive trail that tells the story of North Dakota’s first citizens.  From its elevated viewpoint, visitors can see the best views in Bismarck, overlooking the Missouri River.  Just below, Pioneer Park features a diverse array of recreational activities, including a mountain bike challenge, serene walking and running trails, a playground, and sand volleyball courts.  The name of this site recognizes Chief Looking, the Mandan chief of the village, and its recognition ensures that his legacy, and the legacy of his people, will live on.
