Buckstop Junction, “the little old town that never was,” is an open-air museum dedicated to retelling the stories of North Dakota’s settlers. Buildings dating from 1875 to 1935 from across North Dakota were relocated here by the Missouri Valley Historical Society for their preservation. Each building had an essential role in early prairie villages, and the town currently features a blacksmith shop, a claim shack, family homes, a hotel, a church, a school, a railroad depot, a general store, a post office, and more! Visitors can walk inside these historic buildings for a glimpse of the lives of early North Dakotans. Docents tell the stories of the people who homesteaded the prairies of North Dakota and built its first towns. The site is open during the week by appointment and on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Seasonal events include an Applefest in September and a Hayride during winter holidays.
