Wisconsin State Historical Society
Located in Madison, Wisc., the Wisconsin State Historical Society boasts a rich collection devoted to the history of North America, with an emphasis on the trans-Allegheny West. Its Draper Collection houses the original journal of Sgt. Charles Floyd, the only member to die during the Lewis & Clark Expedition. The collection also features other documents related to the Expedition as well as letters written by or to George Rogers Clark, the older brother of Capt. William Clark of the Expedition. One letter to Clark from Thomas Jefferson, eighteen years before he became president, suggested Clark undertake a transcontinental journey of discovery as his younger brother William would embark upon twenty years later.
