In terms of Pittsburgh cuisine, none is more distinctive than Primanti Brothers. This restaurant chain began in the Strip District in 1933 with the intention of feeding trucks delivering goods in the area. Because they frequently only had one hand available while driving, the restaurant served their sides (fries and coleslaw) atop the sandwich, allowing them to eat their full meal in one bite!

This one has spread to numerous states in recent years, but none is more popular than their original Strip District location. It is open 24 hours a day and is a Pittsburgh landmark. When you go, be sure you get a fried egg on top of any sandwich you want. You will not be sorry!
