Pine Street Colored Cemetery holds the gravestones of several local citizens who contributed to the  development of Gallia County and its surrounding communities. These local historical figures helped build the area into what it is today.

Some of the more well-known people buried at Pine Street Colored Cemetery are:

• Willis Battles, a carpenter;
• Daniel Webster, a restaurateur;
• Lemeul Holmes, a cooper;
• George Mason, a shoemaker;
• Leah Steward, the first black person to arrive in Gallia County, and
• Robert Mitchell, who led the way to early desegregation of the Gallipolis Public Schools. Because of Mitchell’s efforts. Lincoln School on Third Avenue was intgrated in 1918. It was the first desegregation in the state of Ohio.
