Old Freighters Museum
The Old Freighters Museum is dedicated to the “significance of the freighting and shipping industry in the development of Nebraska City.” With exhibits focused on the history of important shipping firms, in addition to the westward movement, the Old Freighters Museum tells the story of not only Nebraska City, but also of the entire West. The museum is located inside the home office of Russell, Majors, and Waddell, a shipping company better known for their work as the Pony Express. Their venture made Nebraska City a shipping point during the nation’s westward expansion. Additionally, exhibits tell the story of pioneers who traveled the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails, with original artifacts included in the presentation.
