Explore this 3.6-mile out-and-back trail near Hazen, North Dakota. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 16 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, cross-country skiing, and hiking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
This section of the North Country National Scenic Trail begins at the trail’s western terminus and travels south through the state park over hilly and rocky terrain with constant views of Lake Sakakawea. This route is great for birding and opportunities to spot grassland wildlife. The Shoreline Trail offers an alternate route closer to the lake’s edge.
