Governor Furnas Arboretum and Whiskey Run Creek Nature Center

With more than 200 trees covering several city blocks, running from downtown to the Missouri River along the Whiskey Run Creek Nature Trail, this arboretum is “an artistic endeavor of the botanical kind.” Brownville, a town famous for its artistic and performance arts, has expanded into natural art by establishing this one-of-a-kind preserve. The Arboretum is named after Nebraska’s second governor, Robert W. Furnas. Along with the Whiskey Run Creek Nature Trail, the Arboretum connects to the Steamboat Trace Trail. Sculptural displays that showcase art in nature and nature in art are scattered throughout the park. Open year round, the arboretum and trails are specially lit during the holiday season.
