The Gallipolis City Park is the site of the first settlement in Gallia County. Today it is host to many community events including the River Recreation Festival, Gallia County BBQ Festival, and the Christmas Lights Display, Gallipolis in Lights. There are three Ohio Historical Site Markers placed around the park. Enjoy picnic tables and bench swings overlooking the Ohio River. The Park has several memorials of interest.

Gallipolis was first settled in 1790 by Europeans, mostly of French heritage. These first French settlers brought with them their rich history as mostly aristocrats, merchants, and artisans. It was also the second city to be founded in the Northwest Territories. Because of these origins, it is Gallipolis is know as “The Old French City”
