With nearly 1,000 acres dedicated to the conservation of the loess bluffs of western Iowa, Five Ridge Prairie State Preserve offers unique opportunities for visitors to engage with nature. This preserve includes a unique landscape that is the habitat of several state threatened and endangered plant and animal species. Visitors can hike and enjoy the preserve year round. In spring, pasque flowers and other prairie wildflowers paint the hills in bright blues, yellows, and oranges. In fall, the changing colors of ash and cottonwood trees are a spectacular sight. Trails are clearly marked and maps are available along the route so visitors can explore all five ridges of this pristine landscape.
