In 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition needed horses to cross the Rocky Mountains. Sacagawea helped facilitate contact with the Shoshone, specifically her brother Cameahwait, a chief of the Shoshone. The tribe provided the much-needed horses and guidance.
