Cave Hill National Cemetery

Cave Hill National Cemetery, located in Louisville, Kentucky, is a historic burial ground within the larger Cave Hill Cemetery. Established in 1863 during the Civil War, it serves as the final resting place for thousands of Union soldiers, as well as veterans from later conflicts. The cemetery features notable monuments, including a large granite obelisk dedicated to unknown soldiers and memorials honoring those who served in the Spanish-American War and other military campaigns. Cave Hill is also known for its beautifully landscaped grounds, reflecting the rural garden cemetery movement of the 19th century. It remains an active national cemetery managed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
