With 1,500 acres sprawling along the Missouri River, the Adams Homestead and Nature preserve invites visitors to explore nature and learn about the land. Originally the homestead of Stephen Searls Adams who was an original homesteader, the land was donated by his granddaughters Mary and Maud Adams to the people of South Dakota. With just under ten miles of limestone trails through forests, prairies, and the riverbank, hikers and bikers can explore the varied terrain of the homestead. Restored buildings on the property, including the Lamont Country School, Adams House, and Stavenger Lutheran Church are available to visit with reservations. Other activities on the preserve include archery and birdwatching.
